We asked the Wine Guide team, 3 Ladies on a Vine, to share their creative ideas for spring wine tasting themes. Niambi Rowland, one of the three ladies, tells us it’s all about nature-inspired fun this year. Read on for their ideas for perfect outdoor events.
Spring is one of the most beautiful times of the year. It is the renewal of nature; when flowers begin to bloom, trees are greener, animals come out of hibernation, you hear the sounds of baby birds chirping, and smell the freshness of the air after a spring rain. Best said by Robin Williams, “Spring is nature’s way of saying, ‘let’s party.’” So, let’s plan to party with one of these fun, interactive nature-inspired wine party themes.
Salad Bar in a Mason Jar Wine Tasting
Salads are fresh and crisp just like spring. The bright colors awaken the senses and get us excited about eating our veggies. Also, the variety of lettuce, vegetables, fruits, meats, cheeses, dressings, and toppings will pair well with our latest spring wines. Prep and chop all your ingredients and place them in individual bowls. You can do this the night before, but make sure to store your food items properly. When you’re ready to eat, set up the salad bar and be sure to have the proper utensils to grab each ingredient. The salad bar possibilities are endless. Your guests will have a blast creating their perfect salad.
Add a twist and give each guest a large mason jar for their salad creation. Using a mason jar is not only fun but convenient. It’s easier to grab, sturdier than a plate, and less wasteful. Each guest can take their mason jar home as a party favor. Lastly, there is a top so you can shake the dressing to coat the salad as well as place the top back on when finished.

Imagine how pretty it will be having all the bright colors on the table. You can also personalize the mason jars. For example, glue different flowers on the tops or paint each guest’s name with a stencil on the front of the jar. To incorporate even more spring elements, add beautiful linens, fresh flowers, and pots of fresh herbs into your table space design.
Nature Photo Scavenger Hunt Wine Tasting
This wine tasting will have your guests becoming one with nature! Who doesn’t love a scavenger hunt? Create a print-out of spring-related items you can find in nature, your backyard, or neighborhood. Examples include: birds, a caterpillar, ladybugs, a rainbow, spider webs, flowers, a bee, puddles, butterflies, a watering can, or even a bike! You can find several print outs online, but personalize it based on your neighborhood.
When your guests arrive, hand them the print-out and instruct them to use their phones to take photos when they locate the items. To mix it up, grab all the wine corks you’ve been saving all year and hide them outside of your house. While guests are on their nature photo scavenger hunt, they will also be finding wine corks, like Easter eggs! Optional: give prizes to the guests who find the most scavenger hunt items and wine corks. Warning, there will be lots of laughter and selfies! After the scavenger hunt, begin the hunt for your new favorite wine with your wine tasting event!
Plant an Herb Garden Wine Tasting
Throw on those cute gardening gloves, grab potting soil, pots, herb seeds, and let’s plant an herb garden. Herbs are used in practically every dish, so why not create your own and invite your friends along. This will be especially fun for guests because they’ll have something to take home and watch grow all year long. As their plants grows, the memory of your Spring wine tasting will come to mind.
Create a wine-themed herb garden with Italian herbs, like basil, oregano, and Italian flat leaf parsley. Use recycled corks as markers to identify your seeded pots! It’s cute and in keeping with the wine tasting!
Pro tip: As the host, you can provide the gardening supplies but also ask guests if they can help.
